By Zane Miller On Sunday, January 26th, 1992, the Washington Redskins (now Washington Football Team) defeated the Buffalo Bills 37-24 in Super Bowl XXVI to win the 72nd championship in NFL history. It was the fifth (and, as of this writing, most recent) championship for the Washington FT franchise as Redskins quarterback Mark Rypien won the Super Bowl MVP Award. The game was held at Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Buffalo Bills running back Thurman Thomas won the 1991 MVP Award with 7 rushing touchdowns and 1407 rushing yards, while New Orleans Saints linebacker Pat Swilling won the 1991 Defensive Player of the Year Award with 17 sacks, one interception and six forced fumbles.
